Frequently Asked Questions
-
What happens in a psychological evaluation?A psychological evaluation typically includes a thorough clinical interview, testing, review of pertinent records, and completion of a comprehensive report. In some circumstances, a brief discussion with the attorney of record may be indicated.
-
How long does an evaluation take? From start to finish an evaluation may take up to 8 hours to complete depending on the type and complexity of the evaluation. The face-to-face time with the person being evaluated varies between 3 to 8 hours. More complex medical legal evaluations may take up to 20+ hours to complete.
-
Does an evaluation have to be in person or can it be remote (over video)? Most of the evaluations can be completed remotely; however, there are some evaluations that must be done in person. Additionally, some psychological tests may need to be administered face-to-face requiring an in-person visit.
-
How do I prepare for my video appointment?Set aside the number of hours you and Dr. Guardado-Soto discussed for your video appointment in a comfortable and quiet/private sitting environment. Make sure your computer/phone is fully charged and have your charger handy. Have headphones, paper, pencil, and reading glasses available. Have some water, light snacks and tissues handy in case you need them. Treat all video/remote appointments as if you were scheduled to be in the office. Please note that appointments can not be completed while driving, out running errands, in social settings, or in noisy environments. If this is of concern, request an in-person appointment instead.
-
How long will it take for the report to be ready?A comprehensive report will be issued approximately 2 to 3 weeks after all the components of the evaluation are completed.
